The Benefits of Journaling

Self-Care Sunday With Gabby

Hi everyone. In this post I want to discuss the importance of journaling.

I was always told growing up that I should write. People said that it would allow me to jot down my thoughts and feelings. Well… I didn’t really listen because I always thought, how am I going to journal if I can’t see? It wasn’t until I was 18 or so that I discovered a diary app.

“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.”

~Maya Angelou

I love writing now. I try to make it a habit to journal everyday. Sometimes I forget but, I have found that it really is beneficial. So, let me give you a few reasons why journaling is so important.

1. Practicing gratitude

Do you ever wake up and automatically say to yourself, it’s going to be a horrible day? Well I used to feel that way too. Journaling 3 to 5 things that you are grateful for every morning changes the outcome of your entire day. Try creating a gratitude journal and see how it works for you throughout your day/week.

2. Clearing your mind

I recently started writing everything that was going on in my head. Everyday we have a million things going on and we tend to keep everything bottled up. Try a free write everyday, it doesn’t have to be in the morning, it can be whenever.

3. Reflecting

I have been journaling since I was 18 and although it wasn’t consistent at first. Now that I am 22 I can look back and see the progress I’ve made. I see how I have changed and grew as a person as well as how I write and it makes me really proud.

I like to reflect every now and then. It doesn’t have to be something huge, but even just reflecting on how the day went, what you have accomplished, and what you still need to work on. You can reflect on how your week went. Was it a stressful week? Did you achieve every goal on your to-do list? Write out some of the things that you have noticed.

4. Making a to-do list

You can use your journal to make to-do lists for yourself. When you have finished everything on your to-do list, go back and reflect on what you accomplished. Prioritize what is most important. It is best to start writing out your to-do list starting on Sunday, it will allow you to have a stress free week ahead.

Conclusion:

Journaling can be useful for so many things. Let me know on social media what works for you. Be sure to try some of these and reflect on what worked for you. If something doesn’t work, you can always change it, and the things that did work for you are the things that you can refer back to at anytime.

Sending love and positivity your way for the week ahead, and remember to prioritize yourself and your needs. Have a great #Self-careSunday.

For journaling apps you can check out the app store or the Google play store. I will also link the app that I use to journal down below. If you have any suggestions on topics I should cover next, leave a comment on social media. 🙂
