My routines have always been the same. Get up, brush my teeth and get the day started, go through my skin care routine, meditate, get some exercise in and go through out the rest of my day.
Gabby Mendonca

Hi everyone. I know it’s a few weeks late but happy new year. I hope that you all enjoyed your holidays with your family.
The new year isn’t all about resolutions, it can also be a time to switch up your routines. This year I made it a goal to meditate everyday, eat healthy and stick to my routines. However, I haven’t really started doing those. The truth is that no matter how many goals you set for yourself, there will be times when you completel forget to put those ideas into practice.
I have talked about the benefits of setting routines here as well as over on my podcast which you can follow here: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/mindful-minute/id1547424745. However, I realized that some of the routines that we create for ourselves can get a bit boring or even too repetitive. So, it’s time to switch up your routines.
Try adding something new to your routine. For instance, since I made a goal to really focus 100% on my self this year, I have started going to the gym. Yes, I love yoga but sometimes you need to just get your body moving. Try calling or texting some friends to see if they would be interested in joining the gym with you. Not only are you moving your body, you and your friend/friends can motivate each other to keep going.
Eating healthy
One of the biggest things that I struggle with is finding food that is healthy and packed with nutrition. I tend to go for the sugary things that only cause me to feel tired and have low energy. As an aspiring motivational speaker, I know that it is important to fuel my body with nutritious options. Sometimes grabbing the junk food and sugary items seems like the better option, but do some research and figure out foods you enjoy that are healthier. One of my favorite things to eat for breakfast is avocado toast. I am not a huge fan of eggs but I enjoy a good omlet every now and then, it keeps me fueled throughout the morning.
Adjusting your sleep and wake up times

I will say that my sleep routine is a mess. So it is important to unwind before going to bed. Drink some sleepy time tea, chamomile tea, take a bath before going to bed to help your body feel more relaxed, listen to an audio book or relaxing music/nature sounds. My brothers and I like to listen to rain sounds before going to bed. You can also try meditating before drifting off to sleep.
In the morning before you get your day started you can say some affirmations, make your bed and organize the space around you. This creates a easy flow throughout your space. Do a meditation to wake your bbody up. These are all things that will set the tone for your day and your sleep patterns.
Something that I would love to do more of is go for walks to take in some fresh air. If you work from home this is something you can do to clear your head, stretch your legs if you’ve been sitting at your desk all day. You can go for a walk during your lunch break or after you work day is done. If it’s cold where you live find a nice cafe to visit to get warm and enjoy a cup of coffee.
In conclusion, changing your routine allows us to find new ways of taking care of ourselves and prioritizing yourself. Even if you take 5/10 minutes in your day to pause, breathe and create a routine that you can always go back to.
I would love to hear how you plan on changing your routines. Reach out to me over on my Instagram.
