Holiday Fashion Engages Senses From Head To Toe

Abby is on the job sitting cross legged in her PJs (gray bottoms & white top with a gray collar) with a teal Abby logo laptop on her lap. Sporting her signature explosive hairstyle, she is wearing a headset with microphone and her white cane is propped up next to her.

Turn Heads In Blue Velvet & Ivory

What I love most about autumn and the approaching holiday season is the assault on the senses. From the sound of leaves delicately dancing across the ground on a breezy fall morning to the mesmerizing crackle and sizzle of logs in the fireplace, I can’t get enough.

I don’t know what it is about the onset of cooler temperatures, but it’s as if my senses come alive. It’s during this time of year when I especially take notice of the multitude of bold textures and I enjoy incorporating soft, smooth, plush, material with fabrics ranging from warm and heavy to hard, shiny, and sparkly.

Since the holidays are upon us, during the next few weeks I’ll share examples of outfits that offer tactile, pretty, and functional features that are especially pleasing to my bold, blind, and beautiful friends.

This week’s outfit is a classy combination of ivory and blue with red accents.

I'm a highly sensitive proud introvert and a recovering people-pleaser. These traits or quirks used to bother me because I always felt out of place until I began a recent process of self-acceptance. While I'm still a work in progress, I view my quirks as my superpowers and am grateful that they contribute to who I am today.

  1. Not flashes are the craziest mind of heat. Never in my wildest imaginings did I expect them to be so fierce. But I’m so grateful that they’ve settled down somewhat.

  2. Wow Lynne, that’s huge, what you’ve done for your brother. I haven’t given my brother a kidney but I’ve done quite a lot for him and he still gives me grief.

  3. I did more than love him i gave him a kidney but he still makes fun of my clothes cheeky blighter.

  4. Thanks Robyn. I think getting older plays into my excitement of dressing for colder weather because I find it next to impossible to even do light layers without triggering a hot flash. In cooler temps I feel more comfortable.

  5. Hahaha, brothers you gotta love ’em. The cape is my favorite piece. I recently bought one that’s a wool blend and I feel so fabulous when I wear it. I like patent but my ocd behaviors have me constantly focusing on scuffs and smudges.

  6. Hi Steph.
Love the outfit wouldn’t wear the earrings (I’m not big on jewellery) or use the handbag (sorry bad memories of patent leather from being told off because my “best” shoes got scuffed- when we were clothes shopping my sister in law kept finding cute shoes and almost all were patent. Nope not happening.)
My favourite thing is the cape, I would go for navy trousers and wear the cape stripe side out but not around my brother as I have a similar cape in brown and he calls it my Clint Eastwood blanket and tells me the horse is waiting to have it back.
I’m at that stage of life that capes are a godsend. Far easier than the cardigan Hokey Cokey.
