“Over 40 Doesn’t Mean Frumpy!”

Outfit #1
Happy Friday!!
When we’re young, full of energy and have our whole lives ahead of us we tend to rule the marketplace in terms of fashion and beauty products. As we get older and seemingly less relevant to the beauty industry it can be discouraging. So when I began blogging a couple of years ago it was so uplifting to see an explosion of fashion blogs for the more seasoned woman.
Today I am so excited to introduce you to my guest who happens to be one of my first followers and fellow blogger, Jessica Jannenga, of Elegantly Dressed and Stylish. Jessica is a gorgeous over 40 redhead who pushes through issues with her hidden disability to demonstrate to the world that over 40 doesn’t mean frumpy!
Why did you start this blog?
I began the blog as an outlet for my creative side. I graduated with a Masters Degree in Jazz Guitar, so I have always loved creativity.
However in 2010, I was diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Hypermobility Syndrome, and have daily chronic pain. Symptoms since 2008, I was in terrible pain, and didn’t know what I had. I went to the Mayo Clinic and they also missed the diagnosis. However, through many hospital and doctor’s visits, my own research, and physical therapy tests, I was diagnosed with this rare and incurable disease.

For about 3 years, all I could do was take my pups out to use the bathroom, and lay in bed. Presently, I have my pain managed, and am able to do more than I was able to do, much more due to physical therapy, eastern medicine and my own determination to get better. For many years, particularly in the beginning my sister was convinced I had a wardrobe full of black cotton pants as this was my “uniform” for years, as it was comfortable for me, and I was more focused on my pain and lack of pain control, than what outfit I was going to put together.

Outfit #3
This blog I thought, would be a good outlet for my interest in fashion, creativity, and also show that one can wear nice clothes and get dressed up even with a chronic illness. Elegantly dressed and Stylish, is an acronym for EDS, my disease, as I thought it could be a reminder of what I can do now, and how I can feel better about myself by dressing nicely and taking care of myself.
Some outfits I can wear . I wear flats or a cushioned shoe mostly.
Following are the descriptions of Jessica’s lovely outfits:
- The first outfit is a pink and blue floral 60s style pencil dress with a sweetheart neckline by ASOS. Nude pointed flats.
- The second outfit is an orange lace sheath dress by Zara with a high collar, and nude wedge sandals by SOFFT. Louis Vuitton Speedy checked bag.
- The 3rd outfit is a casual look with light wash boyfriend jeans by Loft, a pair of blush/tan snakeskin slip-ons by H&M, a pinstriped navy peplum top with a white-collar, and a Blush pink leather clutch by Gigi New York. Grey, pewter long necklace.
