Finding Courage When Discouraged

“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”

Self-Care Sunday With Gabby

Sentence written with scrabble letters on a cork surface "Do Not Give Up."

Hi everyone, this week I want to talk about courage. I won’t lie I have been feeling very discouraged lately.

I see so many people around me doing so many things in their field of choice. I have so many things that I would love to do. For example, I would really love to be a motivational speaker, I want to share my story with others. I want to use my voice to bring awareness to the blind community. And I know that I am already doing some of this with my Youtube channel, but sometimes I just feel like there is so much more I can do.

I feel like I am in a race and everyone is so ahead of me and I am falling behind. I keep asking myself, how can I get started on my public speaking career? Should I hire an agent? Those questions are on replay in my mind.

If you are also feeling discouraged I want to give you a few tips.

Scrabble letters that spell out the word "Courage" on a white surface.
  1. Connect with people who are going to uplift you.
When I started feeling down and discouraged I spoke to one of my best friends, I also reached out to my cousins. And by the end of the week I was feeling a little bit better. When I reached out to my cousins they let me know that they will help me in any way they can. We started sharing ideas and I noticed a big shift in my mood. Having conversations with people who are supportive of you and your ideas can really help you to look at your situation a little differently.
  2. Find things that will motivate you.
Even though I am getting help from my cousins, I still wanted to find something to motivate me. I started reaching out to people and asked them if they knew anyone who was looking for a speaker. I also started working on other projects, as well as spending a lot of time chatting with friends. Sometimes we need something to motivate us and help us get back on track.
  3. Work on something else.
Is your current project making you feel discouraged? Maybe you are telling yourself that it isn’t going to work out. I get it, believe me. I felt the same way so I decided to focus on other things for a bit. Step away from that project and dedicate some of your time to something else on your list. We can also get discouraged if we are working on one thing for a long amount of time. Switch up your routine and see how it impacts your mood.
  4. Practice self-care.
So, you’ve had a long week, you’ve been trying so hard to get something to work and you are stressed and running low on energy and motivation. Well, here is the perfect opportunity to step away from the screens, and practice some self-care. Go for a walk, grab lunch with a close friend or family member, journal. Whatever your self-care routine is, take some time to check in with yourself.
  5. Trust the process.
I find this one very hard. I don’t want to rush things but I also don’t want to lose focus on my dreams. My family keeps reminding me of this one, I know it is hard to trust the process, but I think that it makes it more special when everything ends up working out the way it needs to.

Conclusion:

I know it is really difficult sometimes. when you are very passionate about something, we often expect things to happen right away. I am trying my best to just go with the flow. I know that opportunities will find me.

Sending you all so much love and wishing you the best for the week ahead. Enjoy your self-care Sunday.
