Molly Watt

As we continue to celebrate Helen Keller DeafBlind Awareness Week, today we reintroduce you to the Molly Watt. Like many of my friends who live with Usher Syndrome (DeafBlindness), Molly was born deaf and didn’t find out till later on that she was also losing her sight. In her Woman On The Move feature, Molly Watt | From Deaf To DeafBlind In 2 Years, I was simultaneously heartbroken and encouraged by her words.

As an uplifter of people, I’ve been so fortunate to meet so many amazing folks globally through Bold Blind Beauty and Molly is no exception. A native of the UK, I’ve followed her and her advocacy work for years and finally was able to feature her as a Woman On The Move last year. She’s a shining star who’s also a passionate advocate, entrepreneur and last year she did a TEDx presentation. When you have a spare moment check out her talk titled: Those excluded understand inclusion, like no other.

Extremely outspoken about her experiences as a person living with a disability, Molly lays herself bare and invites us into her DeafBlind world. Listening to Molly’s story will give you a greater appreciation for what it’s like to experience the world from her perspective.

As mentioned in Monday’s post (DeafBlind Awareness Week 2022 | Sherri), each day this week we will share stories of people within the community who are living with DeafBlindness. Below is a 52-second clip that links to Molly’s story shared on YouTube. If you’d like to see the entire transcript in blog format you may do so here: Molly Watt | From Deaf To DeafBlind In 2 Years.

I hope you enjoy Molly’s story. I’d also like to recommend the Helen Keller National Center website as it is a very comprehensive resource.
