ABBY’S CORNER | HAIRCARE TIPS
Fun! Fun! Fun!
Ya’ll know how I feel about my hair! I like to make a statement and I love my expressive curls that would rock any runway! Hey, I view the world as a runway, as it has so much to see and explore! Just read Natalie Trevonne’s article “Time To Blow It Out“ on the hot brush and it inspired me to talk about my favorite products when it comes to creating my masterpiece!
Did you know that if you look at your hair under a microscope that each strand is not smooth? Each strand of your locks has a scale-like appearance. Think of the scales of a mermaid! When bleach is applied it lifts the hair and that is how the bleach is able to lift the color to get your groovy highlights. I find this to be interesting and hope you do as well! It almost makes your hair “swell” and that is why it feels fuller after a trip to the salon!
So, why are we talking about this Abby? Simple, we need to take care of our hair whether we color or not. Hairdryers, curling irons, flat iron’s and any other tool used to create your style requires protection from the elements. Here are some of my favorite products that keep hair healthy and shining as bright as you!!
Bassu Oil, this oil is AMAZING! It is called a “dry oil” as it actually absorbs into your hair and does not leave a greasy feeling. The one I recommend is made by Surface and can be found on Amazon.
I drizzle this into a “Z” shape into my hand, so I can tell how much I have. A little goes a LONG way! Then I rub my hands together and apply first at the tips of my hair and work up to the top. Fun fact: your natural hair oil hydrates your hair, but if you have long locks it gets dryer at the ends. This is why you want to start at the bottom and work up. I do not wash my hair every day, but this oil I can apply the next day before I put it under the curling iron to spiff up my waves. It doesn’t give a waxy feeling and keeps the hydration on point!
To spray all over I also LOVE another product by Surface called Trinity Tonic Repair. This spray can go on wet or dry hair. It protects your hair from sun damage, color retention, and helps with detangling. This product is so absorbent, you can apply to your hair the next day, after brushing, and will not experience product build-up. You can learn more about this amazing product here:
Now, ladies, let me hear about your favorite styles or maybe one you want to try! Let me give you a tip for loose waves that you can sleep on!
- Sometimes I let my hair dry naturally after my evening shampoo/conditioner.
- Then I section my hair in 4 parts (this does not have to be perfect by any means).
- Then, when my hair is almost dry I take each section and do a braid. So, I jump into bed with 2 braids at the top and 2 at the base of my neck.
- When I wake-up I take out my braids, finger comb my braids until they are my fun loose locks.
- Then I spray and scrunch lightly with the Trinity Tonic to keep my hair in place. I get that boho-chic look in seconds!
Share your tip or tell me what you want to learn about! After all We are keeping it real, keeping it natural, keeping it lovely, one cane tap at a time!
Xoxo,
Abby
