A Lil’ Inspiration #17

Sight Loss & Parenting

Facebook Holly 5.22.16First I want to wish all the great dads out there a Happy Father’s Day!!

Every year there is separate day set aside to celebrate our fathers and mothers. Since abilities to parent are often questioned when it comes to being blind I wanted to share a quote from my friend, Holly Bonner of Blind Motherhood, and a video from a young father to shed some light.

I think it’s important for us to remember there are many people on this planet with many skills. Parenting is challenging for everyone with or without disabilities. Let’s not forget there are people without disabilities who, for whatever reasons, are not able to parent. What the world needs is, perhaps, a little less judging and a little more kindness and compassion.

“Mothers don’t need to “see” in order to love; we simply “feel” it. The depths of emotion we have for our children takes root within each of our souls. Never let another person’s words cause you to doubt this unshakable bond. Always remember, loving your child requires no “special” accommodations.” Holly Bonner | published on http://www.doublevisionblog.com

I'm a highly sensitive proud introvert and a recovering people-pleaser. These traits or quirks used to bother me because I always felt out of place until I began a recent process of self-acceptance. While I'm still a work in progress, I view my quirks as my superpowers and am grateful that they contribute to who I am today.

  1. What a beautiful story by Antoine’s video. It’s amazing anyone can do. Antoine says “I can do it! You can do ti, too.”

  2. What is that all about? It’s like I’m going to have to wait til I retire before I’m going to have any time…forget the weekends there’s just not enough time to do all the necessities…groceries, laundry, cleaning…and sneak in some fun time too!! When did that happen…UGH!!

  3. Oh yes the baby is adorable…as all babies are!! Thanks Steph, no pressure at all..if you feel drawn to doing the tag great if not also great!! xo I know they are time consuming, something we have precious few of!! 🙂

  4. Yes, that was one of my favorite parts of the video, well that and the baby of course. It warms my heart to see dad’s interacting with their children. I’ll have to look at the tag Deb and see if it’s something I can do-Thank you for thinking of me. <3

  5. I love what Antoine says at the end…I’m a Dad who feeds his child to you other dads who don’t, what’s your excuse…I don’t have one!! That was awesome…
