Makeup Mondays

The Skincare Skinny

The most important part of any makeup routine is a good skincare regimen. After all if you don’t take good care of your skin, makeup then becomes a mute-point. Many factors, such as what you eat, the amount of water you drink, smoking, sun exposure, weather, pollution, genetics and the topical products you use can impact the health of your skin.

A critical piece to a successful skincare regimen is, knowing your skin type. I learned at a rather early age that my skin was real sensitive and would break out for no apparent reason which meant I had to be careful of soaps and other products or risk a rash. In my teens and early twenties my skin was oily and acne prone and it didn’t help matters that (and I really hate to admit this publicly) but I squeezed the zits even though I knew better. So I went from oily/combination to normal/dry and these days I feel like my skin is so dry that in comparison the Sahara Desert is like a rain forest. With the exception of my face I am constantly slathering on lotion and applying lip balm to my lips. I’m telling you this so that you can get an understanding of how the skin changes over time and as it changes so should your skincare regimen. So the five skin types, normal, dry, oily, combination, and sensitive, require product specifically designed to meet the needs of each category.

A Skincare Solution

When my three boys were younger I was lured into doing a brief stint as a Mary Kay beauty consultant and while I never won a pink Cadillac, at that period in time it really bumped my personal skincare regimen up a notch. Before the product line evolved to what it is today, my twice daily (morning & evening) routine consisted of a cleanser, freshener, moisturizer and foundation, also I used a facial mask twice weekly. Since the Mary Kay product line was so effective for me, not to mention I loved it, I didn’t feel the need to seek comparable skincare products. In recent years Mary Kay developed combination products which not only makes the process of taking care of the skin simpler it also saves a some time. So without further ado, I’d like to introduce one of my personal faves, the TimeWise Miracle Set consisting of 3-In-1 Cleanser (to cleanse, exfoliate and refresh skin), Age-Fighting Moisturizer, Day Solution Sunscreen and, Night Solution. Following is a picture of the trial size set and I’ve added the concealer, foundation primer and mineral powder foundation as this completes the set before doing my makeup.

Application of the TimeWise Miracle Set is very easy and these specific products were developed to work together to aid in the anti-aging process. Even though I don’t agree with anti-aging theories (this could be a blog all by itself) I can tell you that from the time I began using TimeWise there was a great improvement in the look and feel of my skin.

Today I’ve talked a little about the “what” of skincare, be sure to join me next Monday when I discuss the “how”.
